teaspoons baking powder
teaspoons Italian herbs or dried parsley to taste
tablespoons chilled butter or shortening, cut into 1/4-inch cubes
In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine flours, baking powder, salt and herbs. Cut in butter and mix until mixture resembles coarse crumbles.
Add milk and mix until dough is soft and starts to pull away from the sides.
Pour out dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 30 seconds. Roll out dough, using a lightly floured rolling pin, to a 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch thickness.
Cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter and place on baking stone or parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes until lightly brown; serve warm.
- I think we can pretty much all agree that biscuits are amazing. Whether they're fluffy and light, dense and buttery, sweet or savory, plain or doused in gravy or jam, biscuits just make the world a better place. What's even more amazing about biscuits is how easy they are to make. Just mix a bunch of ingredients together, cut circles out of the dough, bake them for a few minutes and voila! It's biscuit time. These Savory Wheat Biscuits are just the thing to make when you're craving some cuddle time with a biscuit. Don't let the name fool you -- despite the fact that these sound and may even look like boring biscuits, they're not. The flurry of Italian seasonings, small cubes of butter in the batter and light wheat taste -- not to mention the fact that they're fluffy! -- all complement each other in a way that is perfectly subtle, yet flavorful.Plus, they're biscuits. I think that sums it up quite well.Serve these biscuits warm with extra butter or cut them in half, toast them and place them over soup, almost like dumplings (trust me, it's good!) You can even use the biscuit dough as a pie crust for Tomato Pie or a Chicken Pot Pie. Whatever you decide to do with this recipe, it will undoubtedly make your day even a little bit brighter.

Savory Cheese and Herb Biscuits
Not too long ago, a woman was judged by how her biscuits turned out. If you baked great biscuits, you could be guaranteed to be Good Wife Material! Well, times have changed for women but that doesn't mean that we still can't cobble up a GREAT biscuit to serve to family and friends. The base recipe is for a specific cheese/herb mixture but I have listed many variations that I have made throughout the years at the bottom of the directions. I came up with this recipe because I was tired of &quotcheese&quot biscuits where you could NEVER taste the cheese! They use shredded cheese mine calls for chunks of cheese. This is especially tasty when the cheese chunks melt on the baking sheet, producing browned and crispy cheese bits! Please note: I have used this recipe for years and shared it with 100% success with many friends. PLEASE read the NOTE section in the Directions if you've never made biscuits. It contains all the Hints &amp Secrets to GREAT biscuit success! Bon Appetite!

New! I’ve added a cooking video to this page so you can see how quick and easy it is to make these Gluten-free Savory Biscuits!
If you’re new to the website, I have a printable recipe on the bottom of every recipe page with exact measurements and directions.
If you follow my Instagram Stories, you know our Easy Gluten-Free Biscuits have become a regular in our house the last few months. In fact, I think we’ve made them more in the last 8 weeks than we have in the prior 8 months!
And we’ve been loving them each and every time!
But we decided to amp them up a bit with some cheddar cheese and scallions and oh my goodness, so good!
Still pantry staple ingredients, still 5 minutes to prep and 20 minutes to bake!
Still the most amazing soft & fluffy texture, especially when warm and straight from the oven!
But… completely different flavor! So much savory goodness!
And I see lots of opportunity to customize the flavor with your favorite cheese, chives instead of scallions, bacon if you eat meat…
Before we get into how to make them, I have to share that the original recipe is from my grandmother.
In case you haven’t made the Easy Gluten-Free Biscuit, she called them baking powder biscuits (for the obvious reason, they require a lot of baking powder!) and she made them whenever she needed something quick!
I love the original hand-written recipe card she gave me long ago.
She was correct, “These are so fast to make and one of the best!”
The basic biscuit is only 7 ingredients — all pantry staples and is SOOOOO quick to make. Literally 5 mintues!
This savory version is the original 7 ingredients, plus 2 more for savory flavor… and just as quick!
all purpose flour (we used GF Jules – affiliate link)
You may note that my Grandmother did not use egg but when we started making these gluten-free we felt the egg was necessary to get the soft and fluffy texture.
As an aside, you may have noticed that we are affiliate for GFJules. To learn more about why we love GFJules flour and why we have used it for 10 years, click here.

Back to the gluten-free savory biscuits…
They come together quickly!
You literally throw all the basic biscuit ingredients in one bowl and mix it up until well combined. Then add in the cheese and scallions and mix till just combined.
Then drop the batter into 6 biscuits on a baking sheet and bake!
In 20 minutes you have a warm, bread-y savory biscuit!
Just look at this texture!
And the melty cheese and scallions!
Best served warm, the are so flavorful and delish!
The perfect add to any meal!
And while I’ve only made them with cheddar and scallions, I think there’s a lot of opportunity to customize… you can swap out the cheddar for any cheese, though I happen to like the flavor of a strong cheddar. You could try chives instead of scallions. You could even try bacon in place of scallions if you eat meat.
Any way, they are easy, savory and delish!
Hope you love them as much as we do!
