BOILED WINE, miracle cure with FIVE remarkable therapeutic properties. Jamie Oliver's recipe
Consumed in moderation, 1-2 glasses a day, red wine is an excellent medicine. In winter, mulled wine along with spices such as cinnamon, pepper and cloves turn it into a dreaded enemy of colds due to the substance called resveratrol which has inflammatory properties but also the active principles in spices.
European researchers have found that people who consume more than 2 glasses of red wine a day have 44% fewer colds than those who abstain from drinking red wine. Resveratrol has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which helps maintain overall physical health since many diseases and ailments are attributed to inflammation.
Cloves contain a significant amount of an active compound called eugenol, which has been the subject of numerous studies to prevent toxicity from environmental pollutants (such as carbon tetrachloride) and studies to prevent digestive tract cancer or joint inflammation. More about the amazing therapeutic properties of cloves you can read in this article: Cloves - 12 surprising properties recently discovered
One of the oldest alcoholic beverages on the planet, red wine, can also be beneficial to the body, drunk in moderate amounts. Especially during the winter holidays, mulled wine is one of the favorite drinks of Romanians. " While too much alcohol can harm the body, researchers suggest that 1-2 glasses of red wine a day can actually bring benefits, "says Marina Grigore, a specialist in apiphytotherapy.

● 750 milliliters of red wine
● 180 milliliters of water
● 100 grams of brown sugar
● 15 black peppercorns
● 15 cloves
● 1 long cinnamon stick (several optional for serving)
● two anise stars
● thin lemon peels for decoration
Method of preparation:
Pour the wine, water, cinnamon stick, pepper and sugar into a pot. Bee honey can be used instead of sugar, but added after the wine has cooled a little. Put all the ingredients on medium heat until it warms up and starts to form small bubbles on the edge of the pot.
Then strain into clear glass cups and garnish with a lemon peel and a piece of cinnamon stick.
Negative effects on the body
People who consume red wine in larger quantities than recommended may experience opposite effects. Also, those suffering from the following conditions should avoid consuming red wine: those with high triglycerides, those suffering from migraines, people trying to lose weight and pregnant women.
"Wine also contains empty calories, which can lead to weight gain. Excessive alcohol consumption is associated with negative health effects, which include increased risk of cancer, liver disease, increased blood pressure, heart failure and addiction, "explains Marina Grigore.
However, specialists advise us to obtain the same health benefits from other sources than from the consumption of red wine. Flavonoids, for example, can also be found in fruits and vegetables. Grapes and grape juice also have the same components as red wine.

What wine do we use to make mulled wine?
The best wine for boiling is country wine, red. It is drier and harder and does not lose its alcohol when heated. It is also not recommended to use semi-sweet wines or sweet wines. For example, a dry Cabernet-Sauvignon wine will be much more delicious and flavorful. Plus you will benefit from all its positive effects on the body and health.
You can also use red wine for boiling, but the recipes for its preparation are not as popular as those for red wine. The sommelier also claims that dry boiled white wine is a very delicate drink. It has subtle flavors, especially if prepared with caramelized sugar.
Star anise tea: properties + recipes
The winter holidays and the holidays are over, but we thought it would be nice to keep the Christmas atmosphere a little longer, so for today we propose a special tea, prepared from a real jewel of nature: star anise.
Did you know that star anise is different from anise?
Both plants have the same name due to the similar smell, but unlike anise (Pimpinella anisum), the taste of star anise (Illicium verum) it is more intense and deep, but also sweeter.
Star anise is the fruit of a small to medium-sized perennial tree, which can reach 8 meters. As its name suggests, the fruit has an unusual star shape, with 5 to 10 tips, usually 8. Inside the reddish-brown pods are the seeds. Commercially, star anise is found as such or in powder form. Stored in dark places and protected from moisture, it can be stored for several years, but if it is ground it loses its flavor quite quickly.
Origins and consumption
Originally from China and Vietnam, star anise is one of the most beloved spices in the Eastern world, giving flavor to both desserts and drinks, as well as savory dishes, including meat. It goes well with other spices such as cinnamon, cloves or ginger, with which it is often associated. Star anise is part of the famous Chinese mix of Five Spices, while in Indian cuisine it is found in the Garam Masala blend, as well as in the Chaala Masala. It is also a place of honor in Malaysian and Indonesian cuisines, but also in other Asian countries. Lately, it has even begun to be used in Europe, instead of plain anise, to flavor mulled wine, gingerbread or other traditional Christmas desserts.
Star anise contains a substance called anethole, the same that gives the aroma specific to simple anise, which has strong antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Therefore, due to its qualities, in addition to being a delicious spice, star anise is also used as a medicinal plant. It seems that in the past, in Asia, star anise fruit was chewed after meals, as a digestive and to freshen the breath - like a kind of mentholated candy.
Star anise is also used as a remedy against rheumatism, as well as as an adjunct in the treatment of colds, according to traditional Chinese medicine. It is an important source of shikimic acid, a precursor to oseltamivir, an antiviral drug. Used in isolation, it does not have a strong effect on immune function, but is particularly effective in combination with other substances, helping the body to better resist viral infections. Star anise is also known for its antioxidant properties, helping the body minimize the action of free radicals. It acts against headaches, but is also used to stimulate appetite.

Apples boiled in wine
I promised you yesterday that I will return with an excellent garnish for the chops filled with cranberry jam and I kept my word. Apples cooked in wine are good and garnish with any kind of steak but are good to eat alone, for dessert or main course. And don't worry, from so much boiled alcohol goes away and only the aroma remains.
& # 8211 3-4 big apples, Idared I used
& # 8211 50 gr butter (or so)
& # 8211 1 liter of wine
& # 8211 some cinnamon sticks
& # 8211 star anise
& # 8211 a teaspoon of cloves
& # 8211 4-5 tablespoons sugar
Cut the apples in half lengthwise and dig out the back. We don't peel them. In the middle of each apple, put a little butter, as we take with a finger. Place the apples in a pan to fit them all and support them from each other, so that they do not move when cooked.
Pour the wine over the apples, put the sugar.
At the end, we throw the fish and the spices and put the pot on the fire. Apples should boil for about 30 minutes, over medium heat, until soft (test them from time to time).
I tell you from now on to prepare for an invasion of flavors, we sat on the pot and as he dropped the spoon, he took another sip of wine. The apples turned out excellent, not like mine, but they were really good. In other words, if you do not have anise and cinnamon bars do not despair, use a spice bag for mulled wine, which contains cinnamon, cardamom, anise, cloves, etc.
Where to find the best mulled wine in Bucharest
After less than 10 minutes spent outside, we feel the need to take shelter in the heat, with a hot drink in hand and in an atmosphere as cozy. Boiled wine, boiled cider, even less common boiled beer are comfort drinks for this time of year, but as the star still remains the wine, we tried to identify the places in Bucharest that serve the best.
These are some of the places where we like to drink mulled wine in Bucharest:
One of our favorite places in Bucharest, Manasia Hub is the place to go when you are looking for a party with a concept funky, or when you feel like talking to strangers around you without being dubious. It is a cool place that gathers people and makes them return to an alcoholic, hot and aromatic drink, especially welcome for smokers who have to endure the cold.
dubbed hipster's haven, the alternative place with a family atmosphere perfectly illustrates the beauty and charm given by houses whose condition is decaying, but not beauty. It is the first place to go with a foreign friend and the most pleasant for a quiet afternoon.

With a basement that connects the attic and the ground floor, Piua Book Bar is that little house from stories (from Dionisie Lupu 76) that I longed for when we were little. Modelier is one of our favorite places in Bucharest and not only because we find delicious burgers here, but also for the friendly atmosphere and positive and good vibes. The house on Duzilor 12 is a real urban island, both inside and outside. The place with a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere and a silence that is interrupted only by the whispers of "jupanilor" and "moftangiilor" under the mulberry tree, invites us to a cauldron and a mulled wine this winter, in a very festive tone.
Whoever stayed in Bucharest should know that we didn't go anywhere and that we cook in the cauldron in the days to come! put boiled wine together and ask what homemade sweets we have, that you might like!

Our favorite printing house serves a very good fertile wine with star anise, cloves, cinnamon, red apples and orange peel. The alternative urban culture pub is cozy, interesting ("rudimentary and sophisticated") and we visit it every time with pleasure, especially if we are in the center and we want a place away from the crowds of the Old Center. We are also waiting for your recommendations of cool places with good mulled wine, enjoy!
Too much sugar will cover the natural aroma of the wine
The sugar is mixed very well, until completely melted and then cinnamon is added, in the form of a stick (sticks or pieces), not powder (this will give the wine a cloudy and unpleasant consistency). Boil for another 5 minutes, turn off the heat, remove the cinnamon stick and pour into cups. Serve very hot.
For a more glamorous recipe you can use: orange peel, apples, nutmeg, pepper, cardamom, anise, etc. But we recommend not to use more than 3 spices, because the wine will get too strong, unpleasant taste.
The basic rule in preparing a perfect mulled wine is to add after boiling together with the sugar and cinnamon, first the dry spices and then the fruit - just 2-3 minutes before taking it off the heat, writes b1.ro.
Here's how you can combine the spices for a successful mulled wine!
cinnamon, cloves and orange peel (orange peel is added at the end)
cinnamon, orange peel and a few slices of apples
cinnamon, apple and anise
cinnamon, pepper and cloves
chili, peppercorns, orange juice and peel (in this combination, reduce the amount of sugar and add just a little chili, a knife tip!

Twisted mulled wine recipes
We don't know how you are, but we were overwhelmed by the frrrrig from the first temperatures with minus, and as mulled wine and cold make a good home, this magical liqueur quickly settled into our habits.
Boiled wine is an easy-to-make wine-based cocktail and a wide range of spices cooked together. If in the past this drink was made precisely to cover the defects of a wine, fortunately, today we no longer have to worry about the quality of the wine, because even the cheapest wines can be an excellent basis for this cocktail. So don't think about opening the wine bottle kept for special occasions!
Why only red wine for cooking? Because it is denser than white or pink and manages to retain its aromas and qualities even after boiling.
When to drink mulled wine? After you got home cold, after you gave all the snow in front of the house, when it rains, when it snows, when you realized that you don't like the wine you just bought or whenever you want.
Below are some of our favorite recipes for mulled wine, but also some tips for making the best wine cocktail.
Vin Fiert Light
This recipe is as easy to drink as it is to drink, and because it is a light mulled wine recipe, it can be drunk more often than others.
a bottle of semi-sweet red wine at 750ml
3 anise stars
2 cinnamon sticks
1 nutmeg powder or 2 peppercorns
2 cardamom berries
Slice the oranges and put them on the stove together with the wine and all the other spices. If we want a weak and more aromatic wine, then we can boil the wine for 1 minute. If we want to keep all the qualities of the wine, and the aromas to be just enough, then we bring the wine to a temperature close to the desired one, but without boiling it. If you don't like it or you don't have nutmeg, cardamom or pepper in the house, you can make this recipe without any problem, it will only lack the taste.
Dizzy Boiled Wine
a bottle of red wine at 750ml
1 large orange
2 aniseed stars
2 cinnamon sticks
1 nutmeg powder
50ml of brandy
2 tablespoons raw / brown / white sugar
or 3-4 tablespoons of honey / agave syrup
1 vanilla pod
Well, this recipe contains two ingredients that give the drink a special taste. It's about brandy and vanilla. And for the recipe to be followed exactly, you need to use a vanilla and brandy pod, not essence, flavor or vanilla sugar. So let's get to work!
