A colourful version of this classic Greek dip. Enjoy just as you would regular tzatziki!

  • 1 large avocado, peeled and stone removed
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lemons, juiced
  • 4 tablespoons Greek yoghurt or soured cream
  • 70g chopped and seeded cucumber
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried red chilli flakes, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint
  • salt and pepper to taste

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the avocado, garlic, lemon juice, yoghurt or soured cream and cucumber. Mash with a fork until smooth. If your avocado is not quite ripe enough, you may wish to use a food processor. Season with red chilli flakes, coriander, mint, salt and pepper, and mix well. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.

nice... but not really a substitute for tzatziki ....-10 Mar 2012


I've made this a couple of times with the following changes - 1C Greek Yogurt, 1/2C Cilantro & 1/4C Mint. Instead of Red Pepper flakes, I've used Cayenne, but more recently tried a Jalapeno pepper (seeded) and that was the recipe I'll forever use. Everything goes into the blender. SO GOOD ON EVERYTHING!!!-02 Jul 2010

I love regular Tzatziki and I guess I should have read the recipe before making it to see that there was no yogurt. It was ok but tasted more like guacamole than tzatziki. Next time I will go with my regular tzatziki recipe and add some avocado into it.-16 Mar 2009
