  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 (400g) tin black beans
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons tahini
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 10 Greek olives

  1. Place all of the ingredients except for the olives in a food processor or blender; process until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed. Add additional seasoning and liquid to taste. Garnish with paprika and Greek olives.

Tip:

Black turtle beans, or simply 'black beans' for short, are especially common in Latin American cuisine. High in fibre and packed with nutrients, they're a healthy addition to any dish. If you can't find tinned black beans, use dried.

This is the best recipe I've found on this site!!! I am orginally Syrian, so we are always making traditional houmous and when I decided to make this, my family was really skeptical. Everything changed when they tasted it and my mom single-handedly ate almost the whole recipe!! (this tastes more flavourful if you double the amount of the spices)-24 Jul 2008
